Brian C. Cornell
President and Chief Executive Officer
Brian Cornell serves as president and CEO of Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where he also is an executive vice president of the company.
Cornell brings a wealth of talent to Sam’s Club, the company’s members-only warehouse operating segment that serves the needs of individual and small business members.
Prior to joining the company, Cornell worked for Michaels Stores, Inc., where he held the position of CEO for the largest specialty retailer of arts and crafts for the hobbyist and do-it-yourself home decorator in North America. Prior to that, Brian was executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Safeway, where he was responsible for the company’s marketing, merchandising and distribution operations, as well as its online home delivery business. Brian has also held senior management positions at PepsiCo, including president of Pepsi-Cola North America’s Food Services Division and president of Tropicana International.
Sam’s Club celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and today serves more than 47 million U.S. members. Additional Sam's Club locations are in Brazil, China, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Sam’s Club has solidified a position in the warehouse club market as a price leader and is relentlessly focused on serving members' needs, delivering value through merchandise quality and enhancing the member shopping experience. Sam’s Club ended last fiscal year with $46.8 billion in sales, a 5.6 percent increase in revenue over the prior year. As of year end, there were 602 Sam’s Clubs operating in the United States. Sam’s plans to add between 15 and 20 clubs during the current fiscal year.
Cornell has served on the Board of Directors for Home Depot since 2007. He also served on the Board of Directors for Office Max from 2004 – 2007 and Kirin-Tropicana Inc from 1996 – 2001 and was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Culinary Institute of America.
Cornell earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and attended its Anderson Graduate School of Management. He and his wife Martha reside in Bentonville, Ark. They are the proud parents of two children: Megan (23) and Jonathan (19).
Cindy Davis
Executive Vice President - Membership, Marketing and E-Commerce
Cindy was appointed Senior Vice President, Membership & Marketing for Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in October 2007 and was promoted to Executive Vice President adding the e-commerce function to her responsibilities in August 2008. Her focus is overall strategy, brand development and membership innovation.
Most recently, Cindy served as President of Global Development and Communications at Rapp Collins Worldwide. She was promoted to this role after leading its Dallas office for three years.
Cindy’s career spans more than 20 years on both the client and agency side where she has led brand building, national and field marketing, direct response, and customer optimization strategies with companies such as Pizza Hut, Doubletree, Starwood and Harrah's.
Linda Hefner
Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer
Linda is EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer for Sam’s Club. Prior to the Sam’s role, Linda served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the home business unit for Wal-Mart Stores U.S. Under Linda’s leadership, the Home business grew sales, profit, and ROI by transforming the proprietary brand offering, improving quality, and improving customer experience. Linda joined Wal-Mart in May 2007.
Previously, Linda was Executive Vice President of global strategy and business development at Kraft Foods. In that capacity, she was responsible for the development of Kraft’s corporate business strategy including merger and acquisition activities around the world.
Prior to Kraft, Linda held key leadership roles at Sara Lee Corporation, including group and division CEO roles of Hanes branded apparel. Linda created shareholder value through increased product innovation and consumer marketing, and drove simultaneous cost reduction in manufacturing, global sourcing, and logistics. Her responsibilities over her fourteen years at Sara Lee included general management, marketing, and strategy roles in both US and international geographies.
Linda also has five years’ experience in management consulting with Ernst & Young. Linda earned a BS and an MS from the University of North Texas and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Sharon Orlopp
Senior Vice President of Sam’s Club People Division
Sharon Orlopp has more than 25 years of management experience; 16 of those years have been spent in the human resources arena. She came to Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 2003 and has current responsibility for the entire People Division of Sam's Club with approximately 105,000 associates nationwide. Sharon's responsibilities include training and development, associate processes, event planning and communication, compensation and all aspects of human resources.
Prior to joining the company, Sharon was Vice President of Human Resources at Gart Sports where she was responsible for the sporting goods retailer's compensation, benefits, training, recruiting, Public Relations, and Investor Relations. Before that, she spent 17 years with Footlocker where she worked her way up through the ranks from sales associate to become the Vice President of Human Resource Administration.
Sharon currently sits on the Advisory Board for the Center for Business Women's Research, known as the leading authority on women business owners and their enterprises worldwide. She is also a Board Member for Northwest Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute, NARTI, and Future Business Leaders of America, FBLA.
Ignacio Pérez Lizaur
Executive Vice President, Operations
Ignacio Pérez Lizaur currently serves as executive vice president of Operations for Sam’s Club.
Before joining Sam’s Club, Pérez Lizaur was president and CEO of Wal-Mart Centroamérica.
Prior to his current position, Pérez Lizaur served as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Centroamérica (August 2006 – February 2009), president and CEO of Wal-Mart Puerto Rico (October 2003 - August 2006) and President and CEO of Wal-Mart Argentina (November 2001 - October 2003).
Before joining Wal-Mart Argentina, Pérez Lizaur was with Wal-Mart Mexico for more than 15 years and held several management positions in Food and Merchandising for Wal-Mart Mexico’s Bodega format.
After Wal-Mart’s joint venture and later acquisition of Cifra in Mexico, Pérez Lizaur led the start up operations for Sam’s Club and later managed the Real Estate and People Divisions. He also served as a member of the Board and the Executive Committee of CIFRA (Wal-Mart de México after 2000).
Pérez Lizaur received a degree in Economics from the National University of Mexico and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of East Anglia-Norwich, UK. Previously, he held positions with the Mexican Government in the areas of economic and labor policies.
He is married to Ana María Ferrer de Pérez and they have two children, Carolina and Javier.
Whitney Head
General Counsel
Whitney Head was named Sam's Club General Counsel in October 2005.
As General Counsel, she is charged with the leadership role for the Sam's Club Division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.'s Legal Department.
Whitney spent the first seven years of her legal career in Houston, Texas practicing commercial litigation where she established a solid reputation as an effective, honest, and ethical advocate for a broad range of clients. Whitney left private practice in 1997 to join Wal-Mart's Legal Department as Senior Counsel for Complex Litigation, where she handled both commercial and employment cases for Wal-Mart across the country. From there, Whitney broadened her knowledge and experience by accepting a position in the Employment Practices Division of the Legal Department, where she was later promoted to Associate General Counsel.
During her 9 years as a Wal-Mart Associate, Whitney has developed and sustained strong working relationships throughout the Company-- at every level, in every division-- based on trust, integrity and honesty.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she received the award of Outstanding General Business School Graduate, and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law where she served as Casenote Editor on the Law Review.
She currently serves as Chairperson for the local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), has served on the Board of Directors for the Helen R. Walton Enrichment Center for Children and is an active supporter of Hospice.
