Mark D. Goodman Named Executive Vice President, Marketing and Membership for SAM’S CLUB

McDonald’s Executive Brings Strategy and Marketing Experience
to Leading Membership Warehouse Team

Bentonville, Ark., Sept. 30, 2005 – Mark D. Goodman, age 37, an executive with one of the world’s leading food service retailers will join Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., as executive vice president of marketing and membership of the retailer’s SAM’S CLUB division, effective Oct. 1.

Goodman has served in several instrumental roles within McDonalds Corp., including serving as vice president of U.S. strategy and operations, where he helped create the company’s long-term growth vision for the United States operation. Additionally, he has guided management through development of a 10-year roadmap through identifying key consumer and trade trends.

At SAM’S CLUB, Goodman will have responsibility for strategy development, marketing, enhancement of the membership experience for both business members, and advantage members who don’t own a business, and samsclub.com. Goodman will also be tasked with increasing awareness of the many premium benefits available to card carrying members, including the SAM’S CLUB PLUS membership, SAM’S CLUB Discover credit offering and travel services.

Goodman joined McDonald’s in 1999. Before joining McDonald’s, he served as president of a retail company and worked as a consultant on global supply chain, strategy and manufacturing.

Goodman was an economic and foreign policy advisor to Sen. Edward Kennedy in 1994, while completing a master’s fellowship for advanced study in economics and business management at Harvard University. He has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy of economics from College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and a master’s degree in economics and philosophy from Tufts University, Medford, Mass.
